Brian A. Mabotha
Affordable Housing Specialist
Western Cape Department of Human Settlement

South Africa

Brian Mabotha is currently employed by the Western Cape Department of Human Settlements as Affordable Housing Specialist. His main function is to identify and unblock challenges negatively affecting the creation of affordable housing opportunities to especially the lower- to middle income grouping of the first-time buyers’ housing market. According to Brian, the forging of meaningful partnerships with the right industry stakeholders is key to unlocking opportunities for the hitherto “unhoused” communities. Leveraging off the strength of residential property developers, financial institutions, employers and their representative bodies, individual unions and the estate agent fraternity are all needed to reach our goal of “housing the nation”. Brian has been operating in the affordable housing industry for more than 20 years, focussing mainly on both development and end-user financing. Having worked for Absa, Standard Bank, FNB as well as the National Housing Finance Corporation NHFC, he has managed all aspects of housing finance, including sales, credit, credit control, risk management and property valuations. A law graduate from the University of the Western Cape, Brian is keen to use his extensive experience in especially the Affordable Housing market to positively influence the sometimes heated discussions around housing in the lower-end of the property market
